Reflection.

This has been an amazing experience all around. Five days left. I am excited to go home. However there is a part of me that will always want to come back here. I would love ot come back with my family, and close friends.

The has been no limit to the access of knowledge that has been obtained here. Every single student has learned a lot about themselves, has been introduced to a larger spectrum of life, and has learned many lessons that they never would have had an oppertunity to learn back in America.

I have had a great time here, making friends with people I have only seen around campus, or who I have never known before. These friendships will be life long. Being able to travel as a class and on our own with our fellow classmates who are now friends, has been one of the best parts. In traveling with the other students and teachers we have been able to learn more about each other which reflects and adds to our knowledge about the world.

This opportunity has allowed me to do freelance on an educational/ real life level, it has allowed me to travel to places I hope to see again, I have been able to engage in classes I never would have taken.

I will always be hopeful of returning to Innsbruck and Wien with the ones I love and who are a part of my life back home. To return and share the knowledge I have gained, and also learn from the experience we may share returning here.
I hope every student is able to take a piece of this far away land and share it with the ones they love most.

Salzburg, Insbruck, Munchen

This is a rebel Blog... I guess...

I Followed the class curriculum as best as I could.... Until I ran into Adventure Recreation in Innsbruck. This was my second time to Innsbruck. I ended up skipping class which was a walking tour of Innsbruck to ride the insainly beautiful and massive Alphine Mountains there. I rode all day long with Doug Carty Kristen Bean, Thomas Merkt, Jarad, and many more.

I sustained an injury, how ever it was worth it.
The injury was a fluke... or else some one was mad at me.... and thought about pushing....

Well It's all better now.

Recapping on the rest...

Salzburg was very nice. The sound of music tour was somewhat interesting, nice for the scenery. Our tour guide was great and funny, and ended up swearing all in fun and games.

The Salt mine tour was very cool. It was nice to be exploring caves that have been carved out by the Kelts hundreds or even thousands of years ago.

In Munchen, the HaufBrau House was very interesting, good beer, good times. Got lost after. How ever the modern art museums class trip was my favorete part. Seeing many old artists and being able to stand before a work from my favorete artist. Salvador Dali.

Then it was time to leave.

Interesting Figures...

The most interesting Figure I have met was within my first 2 weeks here, right around the corner at a music bar. He told me much about his life, his migrations, and he worked in many different places. Karlsben has lived in Switzerland, many places in Wien. He shared much knowledge about the life style, landscape, and Wien in general.

Hmmm... From beyond Wien.

While I was on spring Break, the only person worth mentioning is a women who offered Jon and I her kindness.

I can not for the life of me remember her first name. Jon and I called her St. Napolli.

This women was sitting on the train with us since Millano. She watched us give up our seats for 2 older Italian Women... and saw the consequence of us doing this.... She noticed us standing for 7 hours.

After standing for 7 hours from Millano to Napolli she saved Jon and seats in the car that we started on. She gave us much advice about the rough city of Napolli. She was very concerned with us saying we had no place booked, accept for a campground that we had intentions to find In Sorrento.

She brought us to the subway station and got us a train to Sorrento.

We learned about her life growing up in Italy... and she knows how rough of a city of Napolli is because it used to be her home town.

Its very populated, and the people there love to take advantage of tourists. We learned that pick pocketing and mugging are a high risk there.

She told us about Sorrentop also. We would have talked about many other things, however, my Italian is not up to par, and Jon only knows Grazi and Prego.

St. Napolli's english was good, however there was still a language barrier.

This is the picture of Jon and I after we gave up our seats for the two Italian Women.

Innsbruck.

Week end. March 7th-8th.

I got permission to go off by myself.
Friday i had obligations to film video of ISP students speaking about important topics int their lives.

I got paid with apple juice, and a ton of sweets.

Martin also advised me that i should take the time, and go see Innsbruck, and snowboard while the opportunity is still here.
I told him my plans and he re advised me on how i should do it.

I was going to take a morning train, and start snowboarding as soon as i got there. Then take stay in a hostel and take a train back the next day...
He told me to change it up a bit, and go there, stay in a hostel get a good nights sleep, and then enjoy a day on the mountain and come back on a late train.

His advice was very much appreciated. I got to the hostel, checked in, and talked to my girl friend Renee for while. Then went out and took some pictures, and went for a walk. I was very indecisive on where and what i wanted to eat. ended up back at the hostel after walking about 3 miles. Talked to my girl friend again, and ended up going on a quest for lasagna. I wanted to eat the same food as her. Turns out i found lasagna pizza. She never ended up eating her lasagna, and barely got to enjoy her food at all that night.

So then i got a good nights sleep, and woke up wicked early, and was talking to my girl friend, after i wrote her a letter and a poem.
Then breakfast time started, and i had an amazing first meal of the day.
Ham, Prosciutto, nuts, serial, coffee, fruits, etc... It was very yummy.

Then off to go snow boarding.

It was greatly enjoyable.
Fresh powder, steep slopes, crazy view, and full service to talk to my girlfriend. I wished she could have been there with me. It would have been worth having the view with her.

Ends up, on my last run when i was taking photos, i missed the last cable car to the top. ALL MY STUFF WAS UP THERE!
So i was able to convince them to send me up one last time. They agreed to trade me my locker key, worth 8 Euro for a ride to the top, and give me 5 mins to get to the locker, and back to the cable car. It was a sucess.

Train ride back, 4 hour train ride turned into a seven hour voyage. By the time the Ubahn was closed... so i walked from westbanhoff. Weather Renee realizes it or not, she helped me get back.... I was sleepy enough to just fall asleep and wait till the ubahn to start at 5:30. Or just pass out somewhere and wait till the rain stopped and the sun came up.

Renee helps me stay strong and focused. And it was fun keeping her next gift such a secrete from her on my walk back to the Thereasianum.

Art Museum.

Stephen Altieri
Belvedere Art piece.
Due Feb 24, 2009.

Casper David Friedrich was Born sept 5, 1774 and died may 7, 1840. Friedrich was born in the Swedish Pomeranian town of Greifswald, where he began to study art while still young. He later studied in Copenhagen until 1798. Later that year he settled in Dresden. In the year of his arrival Copenhagen was the center of landscape painting in Germany (Mitchell, 417). He married caroline Bommer January 21,1818. The marriage did not impact his life or personality, however his color pallet became brighter, more colorful, and distinctively more vibrant following their honeymoon (wiki). You can see the brighter colors he started to use displayed on his landscape masterpiece, "Felsenland im Eldandsteingebirge."
During Friedrich's time, his art was influenced by waves of disillusionment across Europe, when people created materialistic societies(wiki). Another major artist of their time period, Ludwig Tieck, described Romanticism as, "...A chaos from which a new certainty must necessarily develop" ( Mitchell, 414). This movement allowed him to give new rise to spirituality throughout his work as a painter. Showing nature is divine creation and could not replace artificial human civilization. This brought that "new certainty".
He was considered the importance of the painting movement. As an artist he said, Friedrich said, "The artist should paint not only what he sees before him, but also what he sees within him. If, however, he sees nothing within him, then he should also refrain from painting that which he sees before him. Otherwise, his pictures will be like those folding screens behind which one expects to find only the sick or the dead." Famous for his landscapes. His interests consisted of contemplations of nature. He wanted to capture symbolism found in landscapes and incorporate the human element to a landscape. He would use painting techniques that direct the viewers gaze towards the metaphysical dimensions. He did this to incorporate religious mysticism. Not only did he capture religion in his art, he was also the first to incorporate political symbols into his landscape painting. This is the main reason he is considered the importance of the painting movement. One example not at the museum, is a landscape of a French soldier standing in the snow before a dark entrance to the woods, with a raven standing behind him. This paining interprets the French stand the farthest away from god, and the prediction of defeat of the French(wiki).
The "Felsenland im Eldandsteingebirge." painting I saw in the museum instantly took my breath away. The painting takes place in the Alps. This painting symbolized a lot, and upon reading the description meant a lot more. To me it symbolized hope. I deciphered despite the grueling places to travel through there is still beauty. This land scape also symbolized a place of safe retreat, showing it is a place where people would not expect to find other people. This location seemed safe also, having a knowledge of the land and a skill to navigate it, the land has more potential to keep you safe than any man made home, castle or fortress .
This painting also caught my interest as a rock climber. This land appeared to be an indestructible portion of land. I thought to my self, this place can not be destroyed, how ever it could be conquered. In the sense of having the ability to navigating to the bottom of the stone pillars. And in return having enough skill and determination to ascend to the top. Then it would be conquered, nothing would be changed, or destroyed, and its beauty would live on forever. For generations to come humans could gaze at its mystery and beauty to be interpreted and judged forever.
The only research I was able to find about this masterpiece of natural elements and ultimate symbolism was that of the artist, and that which was next to the painting. Here the artist shows his interest in bizarre rock formations. Showing a gateway to the natural. I was very impressed by this artists depictions of religion, and the painting makes sense holding such strong religious beliefs. The fallen tree clearly symbolizes death of man, the green foliage and beautiful sky symbolizes god, and the ascending mountains can symbolize the resurrection of Jesus Christ (Museum Plaque). However this masterpiece of bizarre land formations can be directly linked back to many of his old studies. In his note books he had pages of rocks, trees, plants, and other natural forms. These rocks have a direct relation in the sense that they are overgrown, cracked, broken, and split (Mitchell, 420).

Wien ist das Ludwig

We have been here for such a short time, and t feels like forever already. We have seen ancient Roman Ruins from before the holy Roman Empire, gone ski/snow boarding in the alps, checked out tons of museums, been lost, explored an entire Akademie, tried new foods, found new projects, sang on a theater older than America, tried really bad beer, and bought new hats.

There is still so much time left here. To continue to have learning experiences.

Ultimately, Every day that passes...

puts me on a path that has more knowledge and experiences than i ever thought possible, towards going back home to be with the ones i love, and to be more successful than many others.

10 words tht are a part of who i am.

Centered.
knowledgeable.
Shy.
Adventurous.
Strong.
Determined.
Loving.
Supportive.
Truthful.
Free.

I am centered because i can focus myself away from anger. I also fell i have an understanding with myself and the earth.

I know many things from photography and camcorders to rock climbing and water safety.

I am shy because i find it hard to meet new people, and have trouble letting new people into my life. I also have a hard time learning new names and faces, and it makes me uncomfortable when i cant learn them.

I am always ready to go explore something dangerous.

I am psychically strong, and emotionally strong. I can carry a ton of equipment, all my rock climbing gear, and camera gear. Also I am able to uphold my beliefs despite what the world thinks.

I am determined to do the best i can, and also to do the best job i can on tasks. I am also determined in the sense that i believe i can accomplish anything that i really want to.

I am very loving to the ones i love, friends, and family. I am always ready to go out on a limb, and take risks for the ones i care most about. Trying to make sure the ones closest to me are doing good in life.

I do not shoot down peoples ideas and always have an open mind. I am very supportive of thoughts ideas and beliefs as long as the person is not trying to re control the beliefs of others.

I am very honest about my self, and the things i do. I am able to admit when i make mistakes, or handle something wrong. I find more pleasure in life in telling the truth, and how things are, rather than watching them become confusing and frustrating.

I am free in the sense that i am very easy going, and i am not tied down by many social concepts of life. I can be content with out luxury etc...
